EDU version of FM or perpetual license or EDU sub discount?

Hi, I'm an adjunct lecturer at my local community college and need to update my book which was written ages ago using FM7.[12]? on a WinXP Pro SP3 PC. Fast-forward to today where I have a Mac and university has an Adobe subscription that does *not* come with FM. Some questions:

  1. Is there a way to request FM as part of my college's subscription? And if not...
  2. Is there a perpetual license I can purchase with an edu discount? And if not...
  3. I don't prefer a subscription, but if I don't have a choice, what's the edu annual subscription dues?
  4. Will modern FM on a Mac still be able to read FM7.x .FM files created on a PC? I remember "the good ol' days" when I could move .FM files b/w a PC, Mac, and Sun Micro workstation and be able to edit at-will on any machine then switch to another machine without any issues whatsoever!

Two more notes:

Adobe offers an education discount to students and teachers:

You can download a free 30-day trial to test opening and working on your FrameMaker 7 files in FrameMaker 2022 before purchasing the subscription.

Hi wescpy,

A lot has changed since FM 7. Now FM does not run on any UNIX variant and not on Mac.

FM is not part of the Adobe Create Suite subscription. If your college has only this subscription, then you need an additional one for FrameMaker.

The latest version is FM 17/2022. It can be purchased only with a subscription. In my oppinion very good so that you have always the latest update.

If you still have your FM 7 setup you might check, if you can install it in a virtual machine with an older Windows version. Otherwise you have to buy a new subscription.

This is a user-to-user forum. Therefore I cannot check the subscriptions of your college and I do not know which options you have.

There are a number of contact options.

Keep also in mind that FM7⮚8 was the Unicode borderline.

When you open an FM1-7 document in FM8-2022, some Unicode re-mapping occurs. Later FMs can still save back to MIF7, but expect risk of data damage.

I still have an instance of FM7 on an old laptop, installed in an XPmode VM on Win7pro. I haven't even booted it up in years now, because newer FMs open the ancient .fm files with no problems.
