Element Context Rules on Master Pages (Structured FM 2022)

We have a master page with a listing of the icons used in a manual and what each icon means, e.g.

In the top-level Element for the book (TrainingManual), we have an Attribute that specified which product the manual relates to. Depending on this Attribute value, the icons on the above Master Page changes.

There are context rules against the Element used to insert the images. However, these aren't changing on the master page. If they are added on a Body Page, the correct image is shown.

Do Context Rules against an Element not apply to Master Pages but only to Body Pages?

    Hi @Lynne A. Price ,

I'm not sure I follow. Are you saying that the the context rules that determine the image to insert should apply to the Master Page and therefore show the correct image? If so, that's not the behaviour I'm seeing.

    Quintin,

You are correct that formatting of elements on master pages cannot query elements and attributes entered in the book file. I was simply trying to clarify that, even if it won't help in your current case, there are times when elements formatted through context rules can be useful on master pages.

Yes, the EDD rules only apply to structured flows on the body pages.

Thanks @frameexpert. I suspected as much, but thought I'd confirm, in case I missed something.

So we'll have to set up different Master Pages and use the Master Page Mapping to apply the correct one. All good. We're already doing that for the cover pages.

Actually, element definitions in an EDD apply to any structured flow in a document, including flows on master and reference pages. However, the main flow on the body pages inherits some of the element structure from a book while other flows on body, master, and reference pages do not. Therefore any formatting you want to be based on elements an attributes in a book must be in that one flow.
