Question

ExtendScript doesn't launch in FM 17.0.3.546

Hello,

I'm trying to get my toes wet with scripting , so please pardon my ignorance. I found a boffo script called Unformat Clipboard that I'd like to try out. When I go File>Script>New Script, I'm expecting a script editor of some sort to come up so that I can paste the script text in. Instead, nothing happens.

What am I missing here?

Thanks,

Bill

If you have a copy of FM 15 on your computer, you should be able to find the ExtendScript Toolkit folder.  I made the switch to Visual Studio Code, which works OK.  Setup isn't straight forward, but I found a couple posts on this forum that helped me.  After using VSC a bit, I started missing the simplicity of the ESTK, so dug it up from my old FM 15 folder and gave it a try.  Works great with FM 16 and FM 17.0.3.546, which I'm also running.

My complaint with ExtendScript Toolkit is that it seems to hang after I click the run button and it executes its code. I create my code in UltraEdit, save it, and add the script to the Script Library panel. Then I switch back and forth: edit and save the script, switch to FrameMaker and click the Run button, repeat, etc.

FrameMaker no longer ships with the ExtendScript Toolkit. You can try to find it on adobe.com; there is a link somewhere on the forums. Or you can use another text editor. I personally use UltraEdit, but you could use Notepad++ or Visual Studio Code.

It surely would be nice if Adobe stopped saying that the ExtendScript Toolkit is shipped with FrameMaker. I could have saved a lot of time scratching my watch and winding my butt had I known this.
