File Names in Book list/view

For some reason, I have 1 document that I can never get to display like all the others when I am adding it to a book file. All but the one file will show as Module: # File Name however the file in question shows as Files\Filename. This particular file shows the same in both "Display File Names" and Display Heading View. I have tried saving the file with a new name and even recreating the file but it always defaults to the same view no matter what.

Have you tried creating a new file and pasting the contents of the offending file into it?

This should allow you to ditch whatever corruption is in the offending file.

Thank you. I though I had tried it previously and did not get the desired outcome but I must have imagined that. I tried the copy and paste into a new document and now it works just like the rest of the files in the book!

@Dustin Fleming to MIF-wash a file, open the .fm file in FM. Do a Save As .mif. Close the files. Next open the .mif file in FM. Then do a Save As again, this time as .fm.

To perform this action on an entire .book, there's a utility now built-into FM - see https://helpx.adobe.com/framemaker/kb/how-to-use-mifwash-utility-in-framemaker.html.

Maybe it needs a MIF-wash to clean it up

What and how is a MIF wash completed?

MIF is a representation of a FrameMaker file in regular text.

When you convert a FrameMaker file *.fm to MIF *.mif and then open the MIF file and save it again as *.fm, then FrameMaker removes any contradictory settings.

This is often recommended, when there is something which you cannot explain.

Did updating the book make any difference after you re-added the funky file?

No, an update of the book does not change this. The odd thing is that when looking at all the files that make up the book they all look the same (specific names aside) I created this file the same way as all the others yet this one wants to behave differently when added to a book.

Strip off the extra ".fm", remove it from the book & re-add it.

Same result.

is the file name (with extensions set to show in Windows Explorer now) really "something.fm"? Or "something.fm.fm" or "something"? It needs to be "something.fm".

I would first check your File Explorer View settings to stop hiding extensions of known applications. Then take a look at the offending file and see if anything is messed up with the naming.

Attached are examples of how they appear without extensions hidden. Only thing I can see is that the offending file shows a .fm.fm but taking of the .fm or adding the .fm does not correct the way the file is displayed in the book file view within FM

It looks like that file is missing the .fm extension on the file name.

How do I add that I have tried renaming it to .fm and saving as FrameMaker 2019 doc but neither of these solutions seems to work.
