hello,

Can we find the plain text and replace it with a variable? I want to apply a variable to the Product Name across the book. The product name as of now is a plain text. Is it possible to replace it with the Product name variable?

I am using FM  12.

Thanks,

Avani

Hi Avani,

Yes.

Go to the first product name and use that text to create a variable.

Insert the variable and then then select it and copy it to the clipboard.

Find/Change for the product name text and choose By Pasting in the Change drop-down.

Change and Find through out your book.

Hope this helps.

Hi
Tom,

Thanks much for your help! This works!

Just that you cannot use Change All because the inserted variable using this method do not take the style of that para.

For example, if the heading contains the product name text and the variable is applied using the suggested method, the variable will be serted in the body style. This is because it was copied in that style at the first instance.

So I will have to change and find throughout the book.

Thanks,

Avani

Depending on how strictly you avoid overrides, you can use File > Import > Formats to remove the untagged font characteristics from your doc.
