Find text string with brackets in FM2020

I need to have FrameMaker search for at text string like this: USB-C i<XREF>

But FrameMaker refuses to do so. I expect it has something to do with it resembling code... or something.

Can anything be done? How do i make FrameMaker do a search for this string and make it find it?

    You cannot search for text _and_ a cross-reference in one search.

    Either text or cross-reference.

    Bjørn, I have no problem to search this ominous string in a text: USB-C i<XREF>

    I have put a collection of items containing tag-like structures (<...>) and searching for these.

    I test in unstructured FM - it may be a problem in structured FM though..

    the <XREF> part is an active cross reference. So while it looks like a text string, there is also "hidden" code. Might that be the reason? And if it is, can it be overcome somehow?

    In unstructured FM i search for a crossreference - that should be possible also instruct FM
