Finding page breaks

I'm using FrameMaker 9, but I would think that this is an issue that would be relevant to other versions as well.

I've inserted some manual page breaks using Special > Page Break. Now I want to search for those page breaks and remove them. The Find/Change dialog does not search for page breaks.

Is there an efficient way to find the page breaks?

Here's a way to remove manual page break overrides from paragraph tags, while keeping all other overrides.

This spares you finding every single instance, however, you have to know for which paragraph tags the property has to be reset.

(1) Select an affected paragraph tag in Paragraph Designer.

(2) Set all pagination properties to "as is".

(3) Set the pagination - start property to "Top of Page" and click Apply. When FM asks, click "Keep Overrides".

(4) Again, set all pagination properties to "as is".

(5) Set the pagination - start property to "Anywhere" and click Apply. When FM asks, click "Keep Overrides".

I'm not positive, but I believe you can remove manually inserted pages with File > Import Formats and then select the Current file as the source. Make sure that both Remove Manual Page Breaks and Remove Other Layout Overrides are checked.

Yes, clever idea. I'll try out your idea.

fwiw, I've always maintained a few variant styles (level 2 and level 3 headings, plus one for body text) with "start at top of page" as a property

There is indeed no built-in way to search for overrides in FrameMaker.

Paragraph Tools from http://siliconprairiesoftware.com will let you search for paragraph overrides, and is listed as compatible with FM9.0

[For use with previous versions of FrameMaker, the HuntOverrides plug-in produces an interactive report on overrides, with pagination overrides marked distintctly. I don't currently see a FM9 version of this plug-in listed at http://www.cudspan.net/plugins ]

Also, if you have FrameScript: there is a comprehensive Overrides reporting function in -frame, Quality pack, from http://www.itl.eu/en/services-solutions/product-process-solutions/products/i-frame.html .
