First file closes when link goes to second file

I'm creating hyperlinks in FM then converting to PDF.  The links go to other PDF files.  When I click on a link, it goes to the 2nd PDF but it closes the first document.  How can I link to a PDF and get the 2nd file to open without closing the first file?

Found the answer in an earlier thread:

This behaviour is a dependency on the Acrobat/Reader settings. In the Preferences > General > Documents > Open Settings, the status of the "Open cross document links in the same window" will control this.

However, since this is a user-specific setting, you may have no control over the situation.
