FM 10.0.1.408 on W*ws 7 …

Not allowed Admin rights on the company's one and only FM installation, so a quick compound question:

  • is this FM patched and up to date
  • if not, do later patches solve the Arial Narrow problem?
Postings from a while back seem to suggest some sort of incompatability – my breathless thanks to all concerned, by the way – between the Arial FM can render as .pdf and the Arial MS now provide

Niels,

As Mike said, it was a MS issue and was fixed a few years ago.

See: http://blogs.adobe.com/typblography/2008/09/arial_narrow.html

and: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/956514

Also, you should periodically use the Help > Updates... option in FM to check if your installation is up to date.

Thanks for this precise information. I shall compose a carefully-worded mail to IT and see what I get for Christmas …  Before I start, is it still the case that FM patches have to be applied sequentially – in other words, they'll have to start with whatever came immediately after 10.0.1.408 and work up to 10.0.2.419 gradually?

10.0.2.419 is the latest patch. So you need to update.

The Arial Narrow problems were not FrameMaker problems. They were

Microsoft problems. Microsoft changed the fonts and botched the styling

of them. They later reissued fixed versions, which have probably since

been rolled into MS updates. If you have problems with Arial Narrow,

follow the links in the other forum message threads to get the fixed fonts.
