FM 10 - How set up Roman Numeral page numbers in preface?

I want to use Roman Numeral page numbers in the preface, but normal numbers in the document (not book).  How do I set up a "first pages" section for Roman Numerals?  Using FM 10

I have  Mastering the Basics of (and More) of Adobe FM 10, by Janet Underwood, but cannot find anything in there that helps.

Yours, Earle Fox

Make the preface a separate file in the book. In the book window,

right-click on the preface file, and choose Numbering. On the Page tab,

set First Page # to 1 and Format to "roman (xiv)." Click Set.

If you have following chapters where you also want to use the Roman

numbering, click the "Continue Numbering from Previous Page in Book"

    button instead.

To return to normal numbering, pick the first appropriate file and set

First Page # to 1 and Format to "Numeric (14)." Set following files to

"Continue Numbering from Previous Page in Book."

Setting page numbering for books from the book window usually gives best

results, but you can also set it for each document, from inside the

document. (Format> Document> Numbering) and then, using book window

numbering, set each file to Read from File on the page tab.

fwiw, I've fairly often had to change the format and set "continue" as separate operations – it's way confusing when FM suddenly offers pages numbers like clvii at the end of a long document :-} I've usually heard setting numbering from the book recommended, though it sometimes seems to take a while before the page numbering displayed by the book window catches up with the change I'm convinced I've just made.
