FM 16.0.5.1096 (Fully Updated) Frequently Freezing in Windows 11

My work computer was recently upgraded to Windows 11 Pro (I run unstructured FM), and I find that when I resize artwork in a frame or select Ctrl+Alt and click on a link, it will often (20% of the time?) freeze up and I am forced to open Task Manager and hit 'End Task.'

Any ideas?

I was too hasty in my evaluation above. Upgrading to FM22 did NOT solve the screen freeze problem. However, I did receive a solution from Adobe Support that has worked so far (2 days and counting). I share it here in case anyone else has this problem in the future:

Solution: Recreate FM preferences and delete temporary files by following below steps:

    • Close FM 2022
    • Go to C:\Users\”username”\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\FrameMaker and rename “17” to “17.old”
    • Go to C:\Users\”username”\AppData\Local\Temp and delete its contents
    • Launch FM 2022 and check

So I tried reinstalling FM2020 using the latest-greatest install file from the Adobe site with full Admin privileges and it still kept freezing up when using the above-mentioned keystrokes or resizing artwork inside a frame. Sigh. So I upgraded to FM22 and that resolved the issue. But it caused another formatting issue. I will post a question about that on the forum.

Good that the freezing was fixed!

As others suggested, you can use Rick Quatro's script to save as an older version:

    http://www.frameexpert.com/store/index.html

You can also use Klaus' script which is free:

    https://4xscripts.com/scripts/free-scripts.html#4X_SaveDocAsOldFMVersion

Klaus' website is in German, but you can translate it with Google Translate, DeepL or another tool.

Yes, when you have additional issues, post this here.

FrameMaker is not certified to run under Win 11 yet. That may be the overall issue.

According to the Adobe site (assuming I am getting the versions correct....), version 16.0.4 and later are now supposed to be compatible.

    Summer 2020 release of FrameMaker

Update 4 of FrameMaker Summer 2020 release is compatible with Microsoft® Windows 11 and 10.

Update 3 and earlier releases of FrameMaker Summer 2020 release are compatible with Microsoft® Windows 10 only.

Was it installed as an Admin?

Were all the apps, i.e. including FM, re-installed after the transition from Win10 to Win11?

If not, FM re-install would be worth a try.

Yes, they were all reinstalled using the install file I downloaded a couple years ago, then the updates were installed..

Is there a reason you're still using FM 2020? FM 2022 was released in October 2022, and since you have a subscription you get the upgrade for free.
