FM 7.0 CIB question

I am new to Framemaker and trying to learn version 7.0 from the Classroom in a Book. I am currently working on Lesson 10 about inserting spot cross-references on pgs 247-249. The instructions tell me to place a marker by some text, which I did, and while the marker symbol shows up, when I go into the Special-Cross Reference box and select Cross Ref markers, the one I created is not there. Did I do something wrong, or is there something missing from the book? Thanks.

Correct answer JBruins

I may have found the answer. Contrary to what the book says, the text cannot be highlighted to create a marker. I tried entering the text manually and it worked. Thanks for your help.

... instructions tell me to place a marker by some text, which I did ...

Marker of what type?

(only Markers of type Cross-Ref get listed in the Special > Cross-Reference menu)

What Marker Text?

(If you left it blank, it will be hard to find and positively ID)

How looking?

(Special > Cross-Reference may be defaulting to Source Type: Paragraph Tags, which won't list your markers.

pull-down for Cross-Reference Markers)

The marker type is a Cross-Ref, which I chose from Marker Type menu under the Special>Marker command. I don't know if you have the lesson I mentioned, but It was in the Ref 1 file under Lesson 10. The book says that the text can be highlighted instead of being typed in the dialog box. Is that true? Does it work the same? I made sure to look where the book told me, being Special>Cross Reference and Cross-Ref markers.
