FM 7.2 - Conditional text not updating in masterbook view

When I delete a conditional text setting from every chapter in my book, it still shows up in the masterbook view of the View/Show/Hide Conditional Text... How do I remove it from there so it reflects the current conditional text definitions in the book?

This has bugged me for YEARS. Please help! Thank you!

Thank you for your help. When I use the search function to search for a particular conditional text, the result is that the conditional text tags do not exist in the document. Are you suggesting that they could still be hidden somewhere?

Yes.

You didn't say what rev of FM, but in later ones, you might, for example, have text objects with multiple conditions applied, as a Conditional Expression. Even though you are likely searching with the target CC set to Show, the expression may be suppressing display because the expression is set to Hide. So be sure to search with all conditions set to Show.

You also need to search Master and Reference pages separately.

If the document is simplex, you must set it to duplex pagination, or left pages won't get searched.

If you have text insets, search can't really search inside them.

When all instances of a CC are deleted from all component files, the next Update Book operation deletes that CC from the .book file.

If it is not disappearing from the .book, then all instances are not removed from all component files.

Hiding places include:

  • Content not visible because the CC is set to not Show
  • Master pages (particularly Left MPs in single-sided mode, where you can't even see them)
  • Reference Pages
  • Text insets (maybe, I've never specifically tested this)

All else fails, save all the files as MIF and search with a plaintext editor.
