FM 7 - Indexing issue

Hello All,

I have generated a 2-column index from a series of book files using FM 7 on Windows XP.

The index content does not flow consistently from one column to the next. For example, entries are provided in the left column until some distance down, and then the entries resume in the next column. The entries that jump to the next column typically have a number of sub-entries. For IX level 1 and 2, I have the Widown/Orphan set to "2".

What do I do so that each column is filled before the index entries move to the next column?

    John,

    you may have two issues:

    a) Make sure the pagination settings of the paragraph formats Level1IX and Level2IX have no setting "Keep with Previous/Next Paragraph". You edit that in the Paragraph Designer (Ctrl+M)

    b) Your columns might be set to distribute the content evenly. This is set in the text frame options on the master pages. Select such a text frame and check under Special > Graphic Options.
