FM file losing its .fm suffix and icon gone white

One of the files in my book has lost its .fm suffix and in Explorer the icon is now white. The file still opens fine within the book though.

I've tried copying and pasting the contents of the file into a new blank file with a new name and that worked ok. However, when I deleted the dodgy one and renamed the new one to the old name, then the same thing happened.

The filename that seems to be causing issues was the original name of the file after I imported it from Word (i.e. the title of the first Heading 1) before splitting it into multiple files via File > Utilities > Split Current Document.

I'm not sure what to try next...

Did you try just renaming the file to add the .fm extension?

I have no guesses on how this happened, having never seen it myself, but I can say that I make a standard practice of configuring any new Windows machine to show the darn extensions, rather than pretend that I don't need to know.

Ah, yeah, simple as that it seems. I deleted it from the book, renamed in Explorer and readded. I've restarted my computer and it seems to be holding. Thanks! 🙂
