Question

FM8 Rasterising segments of .ai files when outputting to PDF!!!

Hello!

when using Illustrator (CS2) ai files in framemaker 8, we're finding that segments (seemingly random chunks) of the images are becoming rasterised when the book is saved / output as a PDF... Has anyone else seen this before? Does anyone know how to remedy this please?

    Hello Pankaj,

I'll e-mail you the PDF output, and the .ai file as requested! The rasterised segments are marked up on the PDF.

    Cheers

    Hi Brad,

We are trying to reproduce the problem at your end , so kindly send the .ai and .pdf files which u have used.

Also please tell me what all segments of the images are becoming rasterised. Is the problem generic for all the .ai images ?

    Thanks,
    Pankaj

    Hello Arnis,

converting to EPS has indeed solved the problem... (it's also made the illustration file 12 times bigger though!)

It's a shame that framemaker has these problems with ai files...

    Many thanks for the solution!

    Brad,

The .ai import is only working because of the pseudo-PDF format of the
.ai file. FM thinks this is a PDF and internally converts it to EPS
for output. You might be much better off converting to EPS from
Illustrator first. Then FM will not touch the EPS (it will simply pass
    it through on output).
