Fonts missing when creating pdf

Hi all,

I'd like to know if any one is familiar with fonts missing when creating a pdf or updating a book. Everything is layed out in the Arial family in my documents and that's how I want it. However, when creating a pdf I receive a message in the FM console stating that The Times New Roman font is missing and another will be used. I do not use Times new roman at any point so cannot understand what triggers this message.

Also, sometimes I get a message of cell borders being out of the text frame. How do I know which these are, since my document is crammed with tables?

To clarify your original post.... the remedies suggested are for missing TEXT in a PDF. Your post reads as if you are saying that there is missing text that uses some font.

But what I think you're actually saying is that you are getting a missing font message in FM when files are opened and you generate a PDF.

Is that the case? If not, could you clarify?

If so, try turning OFF "Remember Missing Fonts" in your FM preferences, open and save the file(s). Should clean things up.

    you're right.

After posting this message, I discovered the thread on enabling the remember missing fonts option. I have not tried it, yet.

What about the messages that appear when opening a document that state that a border is out of bounds/out of line or whatever it's called? How do I know which border of which table or anchored frame it is? Please see attached screenshot

    Pieter,

Regarding the missing font thing, be sure to check all the master pages and reference pages to make sure there is nothing, even something you never use, that is tagged with Times New Roman.

If that does not work, you can save the file as mif, open the mif file with a text editor, and search for Times New Roman. If you find it, then delete the reference to it; but be very careful in what you delete. The mif format is something like a structured format, so you need to delete the beginning through the end of the font reference.

If that does not work and you are sure there is no Times New Roman in the visible text of your document, then cheat. In your FrameMaker preferences turn OFF remember missing fonts, and restart FrameMaker (not sure if a restart is necessary). Open the file and FrameMaker will substitute another font for the missing font. Save the file. Then in the preferences, turn ON remember missing fonts and continue working as you usually do. The idea behind this fix is that the reference to the missing font may be in some little hidden corner of the document, do why waste your time trying to find it. Just let FrameMaker make the substitution and get on with it.

What version of Frame under what OS?

You might try this Microsoft Hotfix: http://support.microsoft.com/?id=952909

    Frame 9.0p250 under Win XP

I have not yet figured out if I need the patch you mention since PDFs are properly created.
