Question

Frame12 Help seems to be talking about a menu option that isn't there...

Hi, I'm reading the FrameMaker 12 help topic at:

Home / Using FrameMaker 12 / Generating Output / Multi-channel publishing / Customizing the publish output / Customizing output styles > Using a FrameMaker template

It is talking about a "Set Template" option in the Publish dialog. I can see no such button or option. Am I very confused, or is this help topic wrong?

It's not on the menu, rather you have to select to edit the settings first and then it appears as a button on the Style Mapping panel:

Ah, thanks Arnis!

Would it kill them to include some screen-shots in the Help? /grumbles/

I do think the Help text is wrong:

  1.   Open the FrameMaker template in which you have defined the styles to apply to the publish output.

Important: Ensure that the template is currently selected.

  2.   Open the Publish dialog and click Set Template.
  3.   In the Manage Publish Settings Template dialog, click Active Document.

Step 2 should say something like "In the Publish pod, click the Change Settings icons and select Edit Settings. The Publish Settings dialog is displayed. On the Style Mapping tab, click Set Template"

Actually, yes. Graphics and screen shots in particular aren't in fashion in

the tech world for the last several years because they're a bitch to manage

for translation -- have to reshoot for each language, relink, rebuild...

etc. And, of course, pay for it. So lots of doc departments cripple (IMHO,

of course) their help and documentation by removing graphics that are

useful...
