Question

FrameMaker 10 can't be activated without Internet access

The company for which I work recently bought a number of FrameMaker 10 licences. Several days after installing it, a message began to appear when FrameMaker was launched: "Unable to activate Adobe FrameMaker 10". The message goes on to say that product activation is required, we must connect to the internet to activate it, and we have 23 days to activate the product before it becomes disabled.

The problem is, the PCs on which it's installed are connected to a defence classified network which is not connected to the internet and cannot be under any circumstances. Removing the PCs from the network and connecting them to the internet is not an option, given our security requirements.

One of our technical support people contacted Adobe to find a way around this, and was told that if we won't connect to the internet we can't use the product.

This seems extraordinary. Many defence contractors must be using FrameMaker, and many will have the same security requirements as us. And the latest releases of FrameMaker have S1000D support -- an odd thing to include if Adobe wants to stop selling products to defence contractors, as appears to be the case.

Has anyone else experienced this problem? Has anyone found a solution?

    Hello!

We have the same problem as above. Our network is defence classified and we have bought several FrameMaker 10 licenses. I have already deployed 3 installations and now users get the message where it asks Internet connection for activation. I dont know what to do. I already phoned local Adobe help desk but they said that activation cant be done whitout Internet connection. Any help for me?

    Waiting for your rapid response

    Best regards,

I know that there's a way to do this - contact Adobe Support again & talk to the licensing guys. They'll be able to talk you through it.

    Daniel,

What did you need to do to resolve the issue? It appears that others on this thread have similar problems.

    Thanks,

    Hi Van,

I gave Sharma Nimit the contact details of one of my company's system administrators, and he provided a method of activating FrameMaker 10 without internet access. I don't know what that method was.

I've privately sent Kari the contact details of another Adobe staff member who offered assistance at the time, in case Nimit is unavailable.

It seems there is no 'system' in place for enabling non-Internet activation; it seems to require personal attention from someone at Adobe. We will certainly investigate this activation issue before we ever upgrade FrameMaker again, as there's obviously a strong risk we won't be able to find the same assistance next time.

    Cheers,

    Daniel

I am now having the same problem. Except in my case, the PC's have working internet access and coroprate IT says there are no firewall restrictions. I have contacted TCS support, they tell me firewall, I contact IT, they say nothing wronf, back to Adobe and they say firewall again. I'm turning in circles and I need to use my product. What do I do?

Call them again & tell them you need a non-Internet phone activation – lots of FM users in secure installations with no Internet access, so they do this all the time.
