Question

FrameMaker

I have been using FrameMaker 7.1 for roughly ten years on Windows XP and 2000 platforms. I have just moved FrameMaker to Windows 7, and when I try to access my documents, I get dialogues indicating that my original fonts can't be found and that the documents have unresolved cross-references. I suspect a compatibility issue. Do I need to upgrade to another version of FrameMaker? Or is the another workaround?

The unresolved cross-refs are probably arising from the font issues (i.e. if FM can't automatically open other documents due to missing fonts, it flags the x-refs to those docs as broken).

Which fonts specifically are missing? If these are older Type 1 postscript fonts, you might try updating your documents (or template and then all of your docs) to use OpenType or TrueType equivalent fonts. This should sort out (most of) the other issues.

Frame 7 almost certainly does not work in all respects on Win7.

If you have or are willing to upgrade to Win7 Pro, Ultimate or Enterprise, see the XP Mode instructions I wrote.
