Framemaker asks to save document when closing it

Hi,

I am using Framemaker 10. Everytime I open a particular document, the document is opened in edit mode (with *) and aks to be saved when I close it. This is even when I have not made any edits to the document. I tried enabling/disabling 'remember missing fonts', but this did not help.

Thanks,

Bupesh

You may want to check out this thread from the old freeframers.org user

group. It explains the many reasons that FrameMaker will ask if you want

to save apparently unchanged document:

http://www.freeframers.org/archive/03/msg00675.html. One old message

from Richard Combs states, "If your doc contains graphics imported by

reference, text insets (set to auto update), or links to other files, FM

updates them upon opening the file. The Save command is enabled

immediately, before you so much as move the cursor..."

You can change this behavior using the Edit> Suppress Automatic

Reference Updating command in books, or Edit> Update References>

Commands> Suppress Automatic Updating in a document.

Yes suppressing Automatic Updating opens the document in read mode.

I seem to remember that it's actually opened/checked (silently) some stuff in the background. That's why it thinks that there have been changes when nothing really has changed.

Is there some way I can find these changes or what has been checked out.  I  started with  a  Framemaker5.5  thesis template. The chapter was converted to Framemaker 10 with missing font substitution (I disabled 'remember missing fonts' before saving it). Now everytime I open the document, there is no missing font message etc., but the chapter is opened in edit mode and asks to be saved before closing it.

You might search the Frameusers mailing list for more info on turning it off in your maker.ini files, but I think it's pretty standard FM behaviour.

Hi Bhupesh,

Everytime when you open a  document and you try and close it directly,it always ask you to save it,even though if you do not make any changes,if you take a look, there are small floppy icons in the Framemaker menu bar,you can click that before closing and it wont ask you to save document when you close Framemaker.

Whe you open a document that was not closed properly,it might give you optins like "read only","reset lock and open"...i personally go ahead and select "reset lock and open" and it works fine.

Thanks

Harpreet.
