Hi All,

Can anyone guide me to good tutorials for Framemaker Equations, please.

If you know of any YouTube Video links or any online documentation, that would be great.

Thank you.

    Hi Aixtron,

IMHO we can not find such modern instructions - if you consider the age of FrameMaker Equations.

The developer of the Equations editor, Ron Avizur, wrote to me:

«I licensed the mathematical typesetting and algebraic manipulation code in Milo to FrameMaker and consulted there integrating the functionality into FrameMaker 2.0 around 1988. I continued doing consulting work at Frame on and off until 1992, updating FrameMath improving its typesetting features for FrameMaker 3.0 and 4.0.»

If the information from the Help is not sufficient (which is obviously the case) you may have a look into these sources:

    https://www.daube.ch/docu/files/compendium.pdf#page=353

FrameMaker (printed) manuals are available only for versions < 9 (current version is 16 aka 2020)

Varios books about FM (search for "books on framemaker") have chapters about the formula editor - but do not provide tutorials...

Hello K. Daube, Bob Niland and Barb Binder,

I appreciate all your responses very much. I am using FM 2019. I am interested in learning about both Equation Styles, FM Traditional (Legacy) Equation as well as MathML.

I read all your comments and did some research on that. You all provided very useful information.

Equations require some getting used to, once you know that then it may require to learn about spacing. All in all, Equations are useful and quiet easy, once you get some understanding of it.

    K. Daube provided link, that was very helpful. It does have dedicated chapter for Equation, this is similar to what Barb had mentioned about the old style Equation. As Barb has suggested, I will try to find old FM User Manual.

On YouTube, I searched for "MathML" and "MathType" and found good amount of video tutorials. I also found that these Equations can also be done through Coding.

I will explore more, I have enough information and all the help provided by all of you.

Thank you very much. Your help is geratly apprecaited.

    Hi @Aixtron:

Are talking about traditional FrameMaker equations palette?

No, but... in the good old days, the Equations chapter in the FrameMaker user guide was written in tutorial form, which made it super easy to get up to speed quickly. I checked the 2020 guide and it is completely changed. It is very brief, so I grabbed my old 7.0 user guide and it has 40 pages on equations and truly has everything you need. It may be hidden away online somewhere for free, but I found it on Amazon for US$4.75 https://www.amazon.com/Adobe-FrameMaker-7-0-User-Guide/dp/B0034EB1UM. I still use that chapter when I teach equations to my students. Nothing has changed in the FrameMaker equations palette since then (ok, ever).

Now, if you are using MathML, there is more info in the 2020 user guide: https://help.adobe.com/en_US/framemaker/using/index.html#t=using-framemaker%2Fuser-guide%2Ffrm_structauth_sa-create-equations-using-mathml.html&rhsearch=mathml&rhhlterm=mathml&rhsyns=%20.

Aixtron: … tutorials for Framemaker Equations …
    What version of FM?
Then, legacy FM Equations, or the MathML available in more recent versions?
