FrameMaker: Filter problem with CGM files?

The new Framemaker version seems to have a filter problem with cgm graphics:

FM 2022 (17.0.1.305)

The previous Framemaker version did a fine job:

FM 2020 (16.0.4.1062)

What can I do to solve this issue?

    Are these vector images?
Do you have a lot of them?

    1. Yes, the images are vector images:

In my documents the images are on a refererence page.

But it doesn't matter wether they are on a refererence page or on a body page:

    Icons on the left: FM2022

    Icons on the right: FM2020

Upper Icons: on a refererence page

Lower Icons: on a body page

    2. And yes, I sadly do have a lot of documents with these cgm icons.

    3. In Framemaker the visualisation of the icons is fine - even in the new FM2022. They are only damaged when they are converted to a PDF.

    4. The cgm part in the maker.ini file hasn't changed:

FM2020: CGM Import=FileToFileGFXImport, CGM, PDF, CGM, ORBL, CGM, CGM, fminit\cgm2pdf.dll,all,^.cgm

FM2022: CGM Import=FileToFileGFXImport, CGM, PDF, CGM, ORBL, CGM, CGM, fminit\cgm2pdf.dll,all,^.cgm

    5. I think, the cgm2pdf.dll file is responsible for the conversion. The file has changed from FM2020 to FM2022. I did a test: Copy the old cgm2pdf.dll from FM2020 into the FM2022 folder. But the conversion to a PDF still doesn't work properly.

I am still at a loss.

While trying resolve this (which might be an FM bug that won't be fixed immediately), you might explore Plan B or C.

Open one or two of these CGMs in a vector editor, such as Illustrator, and re-save them as .svg, and perhaps .pdf. Import that/those into FM, and render.

If it works, the issue might be the vintage and/or encoding of the CGMs (which is a pretty old format, 1986+…).

If same problem, that would be interesting.

Not sure this is right, but it may be an option... Turn off "Save Frame Image" if it is turned on.
