FrameMaker to Word Conversion Tool

I need to find out ASAP whether there is an application or software that will convert FrameMaker documents directly to Word to where the Word document is editable using Word Track Changes. I haven't found such a tool, but I'm always hoping. My boss wants a Word document of the FrameMaker manual, where he can do redline changes. Does such an app or software exist? Or, is there a way to do it?

I have converted a FrameMaker book to PDF and exported the PDF to Word, but that does not allow Track Changes to add redline markups. It only converts to Word without Track Change capability. I understand why...because of the PDF to Word conversion. Is there anything that will do this without the PDF conversion or having to apply Word styles to plain/rich text?

Thanks!

Doesn't FM2022 now have a better FM to Word export process?

    Hi @defaultcbj1p6qywajq:

I have already gone that route (PDF conversion to Word).

You actually aren't going the route suggested by @frameexpert. He is recommending a FrameMaker to PDF to FrameMaker route. Word is not involved in any way, nor should it be IMHO, despite your boss's insistence. You can read about it below but the general idea is that you create a PDF, host it on a shared Adobe server, your boss (and/or editors) mark it up online and then you import their comments back into your FrameMaker document, and accept or reject the edits. Unless you are being paid by the hour, I would head this direction. It's a much more efficient workflow.

    Painless collaboration using Adobe Acrobat

Seamlessly collaborate with subject matter experts using the Adobe Acrobat desktop and online services (which require a TCS subscription). Simply generate a Review PDF within FrameMaker and host it on Document Cloud. Once feedback has been collected, import it into the FrameMaker source document and view it in the Review pod.

    Hi,

You can also save your FM files as RTF. Then you can activate Track Changes in Word. (I do not know how this Word feature is named in English.)

    Best regards

Thanks Winfried. After further research, I discovered the RTF conversion was the only real way to get Word Track Changes to work. As you probably know, the formatting isn't perfect and the hyperlinks don't work, but for redline purposes, we can probably deal with the RTF conversion.

The stock workflow is to export the FrameMaker document to a Review PDF and have the PDF marked up and then returned to FrameMaker.

Thanks Expert. I have already gone that route (PDF conversion to Word). However, the boss insists on making changes in Word. Therefore, I really have no choice but to go with the RTF conversion.
