Thank you for your answers. What I'm really looking for is a tool, an app, which converts documents/books from .fm to .docx, not to .rtf.

Most of tools that there is currently in the free/owner market allow to convert them from .fm to .rtf. Initially, some of them seem to convert from .fm to .docx, but when you read that information deeply, you realise that they are talking about doing that process in two steps, not directly. This is my problem.

When I convert from .fm to .rtf, I have two problems:

  • The process is very slow and frequently interruptions happen.
  • The result is not exact, not good. There are some images that disappear during the conversion and some tittles styles change in a wrong way, among other irregularities.

You don't mention how you currently convert from FM to RTF.

I still don't understand your reluctance of going to RTF for import into Word. RTF to Word is about the same as MIF to FM. The only reliable tool out there for creating content for direct import into Word is the previously mentioned mif2go utility. It's available for trial use to see if it meets your needs. AFAIK, there is no tool available that will directly create a .docx file from a .fm file (including FM itself).

FWIW, FM's SaveAsRTF is not worth the effort of using, unless you have very simple layouts.

Looks like your posting got cut-off.

AFAIK, there is no direct FM to Word (do you mean the current .docx format - there are many different versions of Word binary formats) tool. What's wrong with a FM to RTF to Word two-step? Word imports RTF and you can then save it from there in the required Word format.

For going from FM to RTF, the best tool around is Omni Systems mif2go (see: Mif2Go converts FrameMaker files to HTML/XML, Help, and Word | mif2go.com).
