Question

FrameMaker Upgrade -> Loss of Styles, Master/Ref Pages, Conditions + ?

We urgently need to upgrade our FrameMaker version from 2019 to 2022.

Before we run ahead, I am wondering if I need to take any precautions to make sure that we don't lose current style definitions, master and reference pages, conditions, or anything else.

Is there anything special that needs to be done either during installation or when opening up the files with the higher version for the first time?

Or will it just be good to go, and I can continue working as I was without any interruptions?

    Hi,

When upgrading from 2019 to 2022 I noticed that no sts files for publishing worked anymore. FM just never output a pdf. When I recreated the sts file in 2022 it worked fine. I've reported the bug, but Adobe haven't been able to recreate it.

    Hi @David28120002t3r2:

I haven't had any issues either.

One tip: you can't update a book unless all the chapters are updated to the current version. One way to do this is to open the book file in 2022, then hold the Shift key + File > Open All Files in Book. Follow up with Shift key + File > Save All Files in Book and finally, Shift key + File > Close All Files in Book. At that point all the book files will converted to 2022 and will update as usual. And as Stephan said, back up the 2019 files first.

    Hi, @David28120002t3r2 ,

I am using Fm sind version 5 and I never encountered any problems when opening FM files in the newer version.

Only exception was when the change to unicode took place.

All definitions (style, object, master pages etc.) work always flawless.

Install the new version 2022 in a diffrerent folder beside the "old" version 2019 and make a backup of your "old" files, before you open them in FM 2022.

Then you can go back to FM 2019, if you encounter a problem within 2022.

    Regards

    Stephan

I can assure you that upgrading FM (even several steps at once) does not harm any of your defintions in your document files. I'm frequently switching between FM-15 (2019) - my work horse; and FM-17 (2022) - for tests.
