Framemaker Word docx import smashes Words cross references

I am importing a Word docx file which has a lot of cross references built using Words book mark feature. According to FrameMakers documentation I should be able to import the text and have FrameMaker convert Words cross references to FrameMaker cross references. But what I get is this mishmash which looks really strange. What am I missing? Does the feature work?

    Hi Bjørn:

     

    I don't have any experience with this, but I'd be curious to hear what happens if you save the .docx file as a .doc file and import the .doc file.
