I'm creating a book and the last chapter has a number of sections,
3 pages letter size, next section 10 11x17's, next section 3 pages letter size and so forth. Problem: This needs to be all one chapter with 6 seperate files. I figured out how to force page numbers so they all line up but I can't insert captions underneath the drawings because each file starts over at one for each file. Question? How can I link up these 6 different files into one continuous chapter when every other file is A-size and B-size?
One other perplexing problem is, the page number in the header shows on the monitor but when I print the document those numbers don't always print even though they are in the master page header. They number automatically if I add extra pages. I tried to combine B-size and B-size master sheets in one document but that didn't seem to work.
Any suggestions on my problem would be more then welcome. I getting desperate!!!
Thanks Jere Hock in Phoenix, AZ

    Jere,

You need to set your numbering properties in the Book file for the six
component files to be continuous for both page and paragraph
    properties to "Continue numbering...".

When printing, you need to manually set the output sheet size to be as
large as the maximum sheet and also take into account the physical
printer margin area (usually 0.25"), i.e. anything within this area
    gets clipped.

    Jere,

The book file doesn't care if you call the component files chapters or they're just portions of a chapter. A chapter in the book can include as many files as you want. Also, you're not using the book file to set up numbering, which is causing your problem.

The easy way around is to make each of your "sections" a discrete file with the appropriate size master pages. Add them, in order, to the book. Select all of them but the first, right click, select Numbering > Chapter > Use Same Number As Previous File. Then click the Paragraph tab and but select Continue Numbering From Previous Paragraph.

Then select the first file in the chapter, and do the same thing, but set it to Continue Numbering From Previous ... so that it increments from the preceding chapter. That sets your chapter and para numbering for all the component files.

    Save, then Update.
