Frequent crashes when editing master pages in FM 11

I've been creating new templates in FM 11.0.1.382, and am getting a lot of crashes when editing master pages. Like after every few edits, FM crashes either when I make an edit or save the file. Usually, it's the "FrameMaker 11 has stopped working" crash. Browsing the web I see that others are having this trouble too, and some have sent Adobe information about their crashes.

Just wondering if there's any way to fix this at my end. I'm on Windows 7.

Thanks,

Tami

    I'm having the same problems.

    I'm running Windows 10 and FM2017.

    I've got 12 MB of memory and my processor is a Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-7400 CPU @ 3.00GHz.

I don't have trouble using the Body pages, but FM crashes when I'm trying to work with Master pages. I don't get a message, FM just locks up. I tried closing FM with Task Manager, then reopening it, but that doesn't help. I have to reboot my computer.

This is really frustrating because I work with templates all the time.

I have an HP Envy Desktop 750-514 which has a small HD that FM installs to and a large HD for data files.

The small HD is too small to store data files, and I don't know how to install FM on the large HD. And I'm not sure that would solve the problem.

Please! Please! Fix this problem or tell me how to fix it.

    Tami,

Is this on a 32-bit or 64-bit version of Windows 7? How much RAM and disk space (especialyt in the system TEMP area) is there?

Are you working on the files across a network or locally?

Have you tried a MIF wash on the template files in case there is something non-palatable to FM in there?

    Hi Arnis,

I'm on 64-bit Windows 7. FM is installed on my C: drive, which has 62 GB free space. My template files are on a network drive.

I'll try the MIF wash thing, but it seems that shouldn't be necessary since these are new templates, not ones created in a previous version.

    Thanks for the reply.

    Tami,

First try moving your templates file(s) to your local drive and edit fom there.

FM doesn't always play nice with some network configurations.

How much physical memory (RAM) does your machine have? If it's less than 4Gb, then FM may be feeling a bit constrained...
