Question

Hotspot a PDF or CGM

Hi there

I'm new to Framemaker. I've downloaded a trail version with the hope I could add hotspots (for use in technical publications/S1000d) to either a PDF or CGM illustration.

I can't seem to be able to open either of these file types?

Can anyone help please!

 Thanks

S100D docs will constrain what you can and can't do in Fm. This is true for other structure models as well, in FrameMaker and elsewhere.

You may want to search out the folks at Mekon, who can not only answer those questions, but can provide you with the tools you'll likely need to create a working S1000D environment.

Out of the box, Fm can open and edit S1000D docs, but not really the same as managing S1000D content, regardless of what it can or can't do with hotspots.

Hint: S1000D tends to need something called a CSDB, which, if needed will likely far outstrip the answers you need with your downloaded trial.

Acrobat allows for a lot of editing, so if it is a matter of adding this interactivity in PDF it can can be done in Acrobat. If FrameMaker is the source file format and you want to add hotspots in FrameMaker and then export with hotspots to PDF, you will use the hotspot tool in FrameMaker.

And what do the hotspots need to do?
🞂 be links that go somewhere?
    🞁 be pop-up hovertips?
    or both.

Also, hotspot regions, or just specific objects?
I used to do part callouts as ordinary hyperlinked text in the callout bubbles, which went to the parts list pages (and the callout number was auto-numbered from those pages).

    Hi,

If you mean real hotspots, then this is described here:

    https://help.adobe.com/en_US/framemaker/using/using-framemaker/FrameMaker-2022/user-guide/frm_graphics_gr-topic_graphics-hotspots.html

    Does this help?

    Best regards, Winfried

What version of FM are you running? Are you all patched up? Are your docs going to be running Structured FM or Unstructured? (since you mention S1000d, I suspect Structured).

Illustrations are imported into FrameMaker documents, not opened directly with FrameMaker. If you have an insertion point in text (or a frame selected, you can use File > Import > File to import a graphic.
