Question

Hotspots not maintaining linkages in PDF......

Framemaker 17.0.2.431, structured.
Source .fm files contain multiple hyperlinks, cross-references and hotspots. All are functional within Framemaker. However, when the book is output to PDF (using 'Save as PDF..') all the hotspots in the PDF lose linking functionality. All hyperlinks and cross-references in the PDF remain functional.
Some notes.....

  • Acrobat Reader recognises the hotspots (clickable 'pointing hand' mouseovers), but the reader (me) is not taken to the destination, sadly.
  • All the hotspots were applied to text frames in the .fm files and reside in the master pages.

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide with this issue.

When you hover, can you do a right-click Copy Link Location?

If so, is a functional URL captured?

Rick: Due to the sensitive nature of the content, I'm constrained in what I can post to the forum. I have, though, attached a redacted page extract of the publication. It shows the typical arrangement of the hotspots, top and right margins. I know, it's not much to go on......

Bob: I opened the PDF in Acrobat Pro > Edit PDF > Link > Properties. The second attachment shows the link properties of a randomly selected hotspot/link. As these properties don't correspond with any hotspot naming properties used in Framemaker, I presume they're generated during the 'Save as PDF' rendering? Regardless, none of them are finding their targets.

That example looks like an FM/PDF Named Destination, in case this is of any help in sleuthing it.

Are you able to post a small PDF sample? Thanks.
