How do I change rendering of wintitle element?

Hello,

I'm still quite new to DITA and unhappy about the way the wintitle element is rendered in FrameMaker 12. Unlike uicontrol, which comes out in bold, wintitle is completely undifferentiated from ordinary text.

Is there a straightforward way to change it to bold and perhaps a different font, so that the names of applications can be displayed differently?

I have no idea how to edit an EDD or even find the EDD that is controlling this (if indeed that is how character styles are controlled in DITA fm).

Thanks for any help,

Hi Elisa,

the EDD can be found here:

{path_to_FM}\Structure\xml\DITA_1.2\app\technicalContent\edd

the template should be thisone:

{path_to_FM}\Structure\xml\DITA_1.2\app\technicalContent\template

DITA 1.2 is something, that is pretty much shattered all over the place and makes it hard to find stuff sometimes.

If you're going to stick with DITA (and not only evaluate it), I'd suggest to take a closer look at DITA-FMx made by Scott Prentice (who is also around here).

This is helping out a lot.

Also I would recommend to get some professional training on the subject, as DITA is quite some beast to tame.

Hi Elisa,

check your template for the character format "win.title". This controls the output of the <wintitle> element.

All necessary changes go there.

If you want to change this in the EDD, you need to look for the DITA reference EDD, it's defined as general text formatting rule there.

Alex,

Thanks, but what template would that be? There seem to be so many variants and possibilities that I've lost track. Is this some output configuration file or do you mean a Frame template if I change all the topics from pure DITA to Frame FM?

Thanks again,
