Question

How do I create 508-compliant tables in Framemaker 12?

I am using Framemaker 12 to create documentation, which must be 508-compliant. When I run the "Full Check", a consistent error that results is the 'Summary - Failed'. Is there a way to prevent this error by creating tables in the source (Frame) a specific way?

Are you running the check on the FrameMaker document itself or on an output document? Do you get any specific information on what is actually wrong with the tables?

The check is done on the output document - a PDF.

The Summary error that results:

Table summaries are optional, but can improve accessibility.

  1. Choose Tools > Accessibility
    > Reading Order.
  2. Select the table by
    drawing a rectangle around it.
  3. In the Touch UP
    Reading Order
    dialog box, click Table.
  4. Right-click (Windows) or
    Ctrl-click (Mac OS) Table.
  5. Click Edit Table
    Summary
    .
  6. Enter a summary and click
    OK.

I can correct the errors in the PDF, but I would prefer to address the issue in the source, and resolve it once and for all instead of having to correct it in the PDF over and over.
