How save Framemaker file as an ePub file with fixed layout ?

Does anyone know how to publish a Framemaker Book as an ePub file with fixed layout. I see how to do it if I don't require fixed layout. Of course, I can save as a PDF, but I don't see how that helps me. It's 400 pages with about 400 photos. I dont see how I can use ID.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Carl

We don't have an epub export which is as good as you will find it in InDesign. InDesign offers fixed an reflowable layout, and FrameMaker only has reflowable. You can circumvent the lack of options by creating your entire book in FrameMaker as you want it to look. Export it as PDF. Set up a new document with an anchored frame for each page. Import a pdf page into each frame. And publish as Epub. If you want to publish on Kindle, you should be aware that FrameMakers Publish to Kindle feature is old. FrameMaker 2022 tells us to download an antiquated script which will publish to Mobi. Only Amazon don't use Mobi anymore. Amazon has a free program which will help you do the proofing of your book and you need to use it. Amazon uses Epub now, but if - for instance you have a frame document with an anchored frame with multiple images/text blocks - this is not going to pass the Kindle test. Which is why I propose the pdf solution.

Why would you not want your layout to flow in an ePub? Isn't that the whole point to being able to change your font size on an eReader?

Not having looked at the FM publishing output possibilities lately, I thought ePub was one of them already. What I don't get is what's an "ePub file with fixed layout"? Never heard of that - what's different about it that a "normal" ePub wouldn't suffice?
