How to add an asterisk to an equation

Hi FrameMaker Community:

I need to add an asterisk to an equation, but whenever I tap Shift+8, a new equation object (a ?) appears. Any ideas? That equation should have a superscript w,* above the subscript t. (Copy/paste doesn't work.)
