How to add Background with Text Over it in Title Page

I am trying to add a footer and a background image that I can type over on the Title page. However, when I navigate to Master pages, it does not include the Title page and only allows me to add a footer and the background image to the following page. How can I set this up for the Title page of the document? I have already tried Format > Page Layout > New Master Page. It creates a border on the Title page but when I go to Master Pages, the Title page is still not included and I cannot add the footer or background image.

Adding to what Barb said, don't forget that content placed within the

text frame on a master page does not show up on the main page. Many use

this text frame to hold notes about the master page or the document. If

you want a background graphic, be sure to click outside the text frame

border, in the page margin, on the master page. Then import your graphic

and move it, as necessary. It will now become a background graphic for

that master page.

Hi Rachel:

I'm unclear on exactly what you want, but it sounds like the first part of the question is that you are trying to create a new master for the title page and it's not working?

  1. View > Master Pages
  2. Insert > Add Master Page (this command was in the Special menu for versions prior to Fm 2017)
  3. Give it a descriptive name and choose Copy from Right (assuming that the title page is a right hand page)
  4. Make whatever changes you like on the new master (add text to the footer frame, add the image on the page)
  5. View > Body Pages
  6. On the title page, Format > Page Layout > Master Page usage and assign the new custom master

The background elements will automatically appear under the body page elements, so you can type into the template frame on the title page and it will appear on top.

What master page does it say it is using when you go Format>Page Layout>Master Page Usage?

To add a background from memory, it will need to sit behind the text frame to be able to be written over. The footer text box should already be there on a new master page.
