Hello,

When modifying a paragraph style, how to have a preview in the text of the modifications I make in paragraph style ?

Hi,

The asterisk to the right of the page number marks that the file is changed, but not save.

When there is an asteriks at the bottom left of the FrameMaker window, it marks all paragraphs with an override of the paragraph format. The paragraph format was changed (with Apply), but it does not comply with the paragraph format. The user had not clicked Update.

When you want to test, and you clicked Apply (to not change ALL paragraphs with this format), you will always have overrides. When your test is done, you have several options:

o Press CTRL+Z to go back to the original paragraph format.
o Apply the paragraph format again.
o Accept that there is an override (sometimes needed).
o Press Update to update the paragraph format.

Best regards, Winfried

Hi Pierre!

It's been a while. Hope you are doing well.

That's what Apply is for. You can see how your decisions look on the selected paragraph, and continue to refine them until you love how they look. Once you do, click Update Style to update the definition.

Just be sure not to click Apply and stop before you click Update Style, because that leaves an overrides and overrides are BAD! 😉

Hi Barb,

I hope you are doing well too. And a happy new year to you !

I was thinking to what you have said about overrides. So, in order to prevent the overrides, if I click on "apply", I am obliged to "update style". But if I want only to test (without updating style), how to prevent overrides ?

Moreover, in this screenshot, I have an asterisk symbol at the right of the page number. What is it ?
