Question

How to import a text in several Fm files at the same time?

Hello!

I am using Framemaker 11.

I have a book including several files. Each file includes a copyright text located in a separate Fm file, and imported by reference.

The problem: if I move the folder that includes the book and its files, even though I put it in a place so that the link between the files and the text is the same, it seems like Fm cannot retrieve the path to the text.

Thus, I am forced to open every single file in the book and to re-import the text in each of them.

My question : is there a way to import the text into all the files of the book at once?

Thanks in advance for your answers.

With a text inset, if FM can't find the path to an inset, it should be asking you to pick the new location when a file is opened. It will then use this location as the default when looking in other files opened at the same time (for all files in a book).

You may have had absolute paths instead of relative ones when the links were first created. Hence they would break when you ove things. FM will create absolute links whenever the root of a drive is traversed or another drive is referenced.

If you keep your text inset library in a fixed location, and force FM to make absolute links to that location, then when you move the books and components around (and leave the insets alone), the links won't break.

Thanks for your answer, Arnis.

> Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to work on my computer: everytime I would open a file of the book, this message is displayed: "[file name] contains unresolved text insets. For information on locating them, see your user guide or online Help."

Even though I already reimported the text inset in some other files in the same book, Fm doesn't do it automatically for the rest of the files.

However, is there a way to configure the paths in advance in Fm?

Is the file that you want to use as a text inset containing text insets itself? I’m not sure how FM handles a text inset within an inset situation.
