how to make keyboard shortcuts for paragraph formats?

Hi,

I am familiar with editing the customui.cfg file to create my own shortcut keys or modifying existing ones for existing commands.

Is it possible to create keyboard shortcuts for paragraph formats? For example, Esc hd1 for heading 1 or Esc hd2 for heading 2.

Yours,

Michael F

I'll leave it to someone more knowledgeable to give you information about defining shortcuts … Esc,o,p,c gets as far opening the catalogue but doesn't really help: no immediate focus, though, at least here on this PC, and no mouse-free way of selecting a style.

For the sake of future generations who may retrieve this post, and not because I imagine you don't already know about it, I'll mention F9 as well. Occasionally coy, in the sense of deciding not to work after you've used some particularly arcane key sequence, but F9, h ought to get you the first entry starting with h; F9, hd your first heading and so on. F9 and up/down arrow take you up and down the list, though it doesn't loop round at the ends; and F8 does the same for character styles.

Niels,

Yes, I use F9 all the time, F8 to a lesser extent. In addition to several heading formats, I just revised my numbered lists to go three levels, but also have bullet lists and continued lists, all starting with "list" so I can find them quickly in the paragraph catalog.

If there was a way to attach keyboard shortcuts to paragraph formats, it would cut down on a lot of hitting the down arrow after pressing F9 and the first letter of the format.

Yours,

F9 and the first letter of the format

Is this a version thang? Up to 10.0, which is what I'm on now, I can press F9 and enter the first few letters to navigate in the list. So F9 :t – my paragraph style names start with : – gets me straight to :tcap, where I can either down-arrow to :thd and :ttx or just carry on typing. As for lists, an earlier set of styles included :ol_b, :ol_c and :ol_e to start, continue and end ordered lists – alphabetical order was a happy bonus :-}
