How to move FrameMaker 7 to a new computer

I have Adobe FrameMaker v. 7.2b144 installed on a Win XP/Pro computer.

I have ordered a Win & (64 bit) computer (Dell Latitude E6520 with the Intel i5/2.3 GHz processor and 8 GB RAM).

Is this version Win 7 compatible?  If so, can I just install FrameMaker from the disk and then connect to Updates (no I don't want to continue using FrameMaker on my old computer)?

Or is there something else I need to do to make this move?

I tried searching this forum, but the search capability has not yet been restored.

I can't remember if activation was present in v7.x, but I think it was.

So you also have to choose Help> Deactivate on the old computer if you

want to be able to activate the new computer without phoning in to Adobe.

You'll probably also want to copy over your old maker.ini and plugins.

I can't speak directly to 7.2, but based on another recent thread, 7.0 and 7,1 may install on Win7, but the PostScript driver won't. So you won't be able to generate PS or PDF output. I suspect that using the XP32 emulation environment in Win7 can't work around this, either.

You'll need a more recent PS driver, such as the one included in a Win7-compatible version of the full Acrobat product.

If the above isn't a showstopper, you then have to address the run-time license problem. I have no idea what steps Adobe uses to re-issue your codeword for the new install. Without it, you only get demo mode.

It is not a PostScript driver issue as much as an issue of the version of Distiller and the corresponding PostScript driver plug-in for the Adobe PDF PostScript driver instance. (Note that the PostScript driver itself is delivered as part of Windows itself; Adobe doesn't distribute the driver at all).

OK, let me see if I correctly understand what you have told me.

I apparently can simply install FrameMaker on my new Windows 7 computer.  Correct?  I don't need a new "codeword" or license key?  FrameMaker 7.2 has no "activation" (only registration).  I then need to install all previous updates.  Can I do this using the Help/Updates?  No license problems?

I am confused about the PostScript driver issue.  FM will apparently install on Windows 7, but I will not be able to generate PDF output (because the PostScript driver is part of Windows 7 and not compatible with FM?).  Correct?

Since Adobe doesn't distribute the driver, what are my options?
