how to read Framemaker 4 files

I have some very old (1994) Framemaker files. The first line is

<MakerFile 4.0K>

so I presume they are FrameMaker 4 files. They contain text, tables, and diagrams, iirc.

Does anyone know how I can read them or translate to, say, pdf??

Any later version of FM can open these files. Recently I looked into FM-3 files (created 1991) with my FM-15 (aka Edition 2019)

@K.Daube Thank you, that's good to know, and I will try it. I use a Mac these days but no doubt I can get FM via Bootcamp or Parallels - or even borrow a PC.

Check, if you have the correct fonts. Otherwise FrameMaker will replace the old fonts with fonts of its replacement Iist.

If the text is any western language, then everything will be fine. If this old file used pre-Unicode fonts for e.g. an Eastern European language, and you want to use a modern Unicode font, then FrameMaker might interpret the characters incorrectly.
