How to reference the same footnote several times?

I have a table with a footnote which I now want to reference several times. Using FM19.

The original footnote is labeled "a". Now I want to reference "a" again, from another cell in the same table. But even if I copy the original footnote reference and paste it into another cell, it gets the label "b".

It needs to be a Cross-Reference, to the Footnote itself. Typically I use:
    Xref format name: FootnoteXref
    Xref Def: <FootnoteXref><$paranumonly>

Where: <FootnoteXref> is a Character Format of:
    Name: FootnoteXref
    Def: All As-Is except
    ☑ Superscript
