how to remove underline

Hello,

In an existing file, I have selected "Courant", then I have pasted text (from internet to FM).

Result : all my text in FM was underlined.

In the paragraph designer "Courant", I see that "underlined" is checked.

In the character designer "Titre souligné" is tagged, but it should not.

And I see that each time I copy a text from internet to FM, all my text is underlined.

Why ?

The *Courant means that the Courant para tag has been applied, but that overrides to the saved style are present.

Reselecting the para tag from the Paragraph Catalog reapplies the saved setting to that paragraph, removing the override.

At the bottom left corner, here are the infos of the whole text :

What does that mean ?

So, if I select the whole text, I have two tags in bold : "Courant" and "Titre souligné".

I have seen that if I simply click on "Police defaut" (character designer), nothing happen in the text (all is underlined) but at the bottom left corner, I have now these infos (you can notice that before "Courant" there is the symbol * ) :

I know that "Courant" is in bold, but I select again "Courant", and now the text is without underline, and at the bottom left corner I have these infos (you can notice that before "Courant" there is no symbol * ) :

I don't undertstand why I had "Courant" in bold, but I am obliged to select it again ? And what does that mean the symbol * before "Courant" at the bottom left corner ?

* likely means that an Override is present, such as some prior author applying underline via:
Format 🞃
Style » Underline
Overrides are inadvisable (I never use them, and this case is an example of why), so I'm not an expert on quicker ways to eliminate them. You can select the offending text and [re]apply that ___ override until it goes away entirely.

Hi,

Could it be that the text is not underlined by a character or paragraph format, but from a condition or the Track text edits tool?

When a condition is applied, the text can get the colour and formatting which is defined in the condition. Select underlined text and open the Conditional text panel to check this.

The Track text edits tool marks new text in green with underlining. When you select such text, FrameMaker shows this info in the lower left corner of the document window.

Good point Winfried, Placing the cursor in the para and looking at the lower left corner would show para character and condition info

I have just selected the whole text and also "Police defaut" in the character catalog, but with no effect (all the text remains underlined).

Click in the margin outside of your text frame and open the Paragraph Designer. Choose Courant from the dropdown menu...is the Underline option cleared? (not checked, and not grey/ambiguous)

If so, clear the box as below (where I've selected Heading1) and click Update Style

If the box is already cleared, then selecting Courant from the paragraph catalog or selecting the Default Paragraph Font per Bob's suggestion should clear it.

If you still can't resolve it, place your cursor in an offending paragraph and send us a screen capture of the Font options in the Paragraph Designer.

Select the underlined text (or the whole paragraph), and from the Character Catalog menu, select:
Police ¶ dèfaut (Default ¶ format)
That will remove any Character Format.
