Thank you Arnis for your help.  I do have one issue that keeps popping up.  I get a message, "Cannot put markers in a text line."  If I do this command without an insertion point, I then get the message, "No Insertion Point."  What am I doing wrong?

It sounds like you're using the wrong tool.

You need to first manually insert a new text frame using the Text Frame tool. Do NOT use the Text Line tool (the "A" symbol in the palette).

The text frame tool is circled in Red.

Once you've inserted the text frame, simply click in this frame by the Pilcrow "¶" symbol (it really helps if you have the View > Text Symbols turned on) and insert your hypertext marker.

Note: depending upon the sequence of events, you may have to bring this text frame to "front". Use Graphics> Bring to Front on the selected text frame.

The basic technique for creating a hyperlink area over a graphic is to place a text frame (use tthe Graphics Palette) over the image area that you wish to make a "hotspot". Then in this text frame insert only a hypertext marker that makes the url link, e.g. "message URL [link address]".
