Hyperlinks not working in Index

I have put in my index markers and run my "standard " index but, the entries are not hyperlinked.

Can anyone tell me why my hyperlinks would not be appearing. I have checkked off the little tick box " hyperlinks" when creating the standard index.

This is an old thread, but I am having this problem in 2010. I am working with FrameMaker 8.0p277 (clien'ts requirement) on Windows XP 2002 SP2, and have Acrobat 9.1.2.

I have an index in Frame - created with the "Create Hyperlinks" option, and the links do not work in Frame or in Acrobat. In Frame, CTRL+ALT clicking these links yields an error message that says, "Index Specification." In Acrobat they simply do not work. Other types of links work (TOC and cross ref's).

The Index Specification on the reference page in the index file reads:

Index Specification
openObjectId <$relfilename>:<$ObjectType> <$ObjectId>

I have been using Save as PDF to create the PDF file.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The Index Specification (link component) looks correct for an unstructured FM one. Is the specification complete?, e.g.

openObjectId <$relfilename>:<$ObjectType> <$ObjectId>

It might just be easier to rename this IX file and then create a new one for the book. You can then import any required paratags, character formats and page layouts from the renamed file.

Thanks for the help. Yes, my index spec. had everything yours did. The lines were in a different order, but I rearranged them. It didn't do any good.

I had also tried creating a new index before, but that also didn't work.

The marker for the page numbers is Hypertext - Index Specification - is that correct?

I have a document and want to link additional separate .pdf documents to it. Is it possible to create a marker(???) that is the link to (for example: Drive:/Foldername/)
and then a hypertext (Filename.pdf)

In the event my folder containing all of the .pdf documents is moved or changed,I would not have to change all the hyperlinks, just the Marker.

Is this possible?

Thanks Arnis,

The hyperlinks are working now in the book PDF. My problem was that I was trying to create an independent PDF file of just the Index only (re: not in the book.) I am able to habe working hyperlinks in the PDF file.

Hi Arnis,

Thanks for your reply. My links are working in the Framemaker doc (framemaker 8.0) but, when I convert/ save to PDF, they are not working. I found that when I initially created my TOC- those links were not initially carried over either.

Exactly how are you creating the PDFs (step-by-step)?

If you have Acrobat, you can use the Link tool to see if there are any
link areas at all on your PDF pages.

I am using Framemaker 8 and the hyperlinks are not in the generated Index file in Framemaker nor are theere active hyperlinks when I covert file to PDF.

Silly question, but did you have the "Create Hypertext Links" option
checked in the Index setup dialog window?

If so, then a quick check in the FM files is to hold down the ctrl and
alt keys and then mouse over any link areas. Your pointer should
change to a hand with a pointing finger over any active hypertext
areas. If you then click on these, it should make the jump to the
target.

If you have active hypertext areas in your FM documents, then when
creating the PDFs, make sure that you have the Generate Acrobat Data
option enabled, if not using the Save As PDF option (i.e. printing to
a postscript file and distilling).
