Hi, thank you for your reply Arnis

The thing is I have a lot of manuals that have been written in Word and distributed in Pdf, I have been asked to import them in Framemaker, but when I import them and try to edit them FM sends me back to the original Word Doc, I'd liek to be able to edit them directly in FM eliminating the use of word.

These manuals are updated regularly so going back and forth between programs is a mission and very times consuming.

How *exactly* are you importing the Word files into the FrameMaker document(s)?

A simple copy&paste operation will most likely result in an OLE linked object, which is something that you definitely don't want.

I've created a custom blank document,  selected from the File menu then Import>File> chose the word doc I wanted, then a window named Unknown file type opened up and i chose Microsoft word, converted my file, import text by flow reference window opened and i chose from the option offered  and my doc opened.

I've tried also to import as Copy into document instead of copy by reference, but it changes my format, the graphic is messed.

    What am i doing wrong?

    Anna,

What problems are you currently having? If the Word documents have not been created properly (i.e.sytematically using correct styles and no overrides), then you may find it easier to simply import a plain text version of the Word document contents and re-tag the material in FM using an appropriate template.
