Implement the ditavalref element in ditamaps to "automate" filtering

I have several ditamaps that share content. The content is tagged appropriately.

When I use the method of Publish > Choose ditaval file > PDF, everything works like a charm. My team would like to include the link to the ditaval file using ditavalref.

So far, my experience is that 1) the filtering doesn't happen and 2) FM inserts content that breaks the structure.

If I remove the broken bits from the structure, the PDF generates but does not filter.

Any suggestions?

I'm still looking for help with this. We want to simplify some of our publishing process, the engineers often forget to choose the correct ditaval before generating a PDF.

I've read what I can about ditavalref but I can't get it to work in a ditamap in FrameMaker.

 

Any help at all would be appreciated. Even if it just to tell me that this doesn't work, or doesn't work yet.
