Import PDF Comments malfunctioning

Hi all,

The feature in FrameMaker 9 we were looking out for the most was the ability to creat e a PDF for Review and afterwards import the changes and comments created in that PDF.

Three months in it still doesn't work.

The Scriptorium peeps already noticed it (http://www.scriptorium.com/whitepapers/FM9review.pdf) and now we are having great problems with it too.

Comments come in at the wrong places, usually between a few characters or pages higher in the file.

Does anybody else have any experience (good or bad) with this feature?

Is there an improvement to be expected?

Regards,

Roel Van de Water.

    Hi Ron,

What is being shown in the summary which comes after import is done. Is it showing some comments as misplaced? Are the comments coming as Markers or as tracked text edits? Comments will come as misplaced if they are applied over text like variables, cross refs or text insets. Also for successful importing the text should be in a flow i.e the text frame should have a flow name.

The summary does show some misplaced comments. They are in the FM document as tracked text edits.

There are no text insets in teh documents but there index markers.

All teh text is in plain Flow A.

I tried to attach one of the files but it didn't work...

    Regards, Roel.

    Hi Ron

Can you send the .fm file and the .pdf file with comments to pulkit@adobe.com . It will help in isolating the issue you are facing.

    Roel,

Can you confirm that the FM documents were never edited/modified between the time that the PDF for review was created and the time that the comments were imported?

    Hi Arnis,

    Yes I can.

We have tried multiple scenario's but all included closing the FM file after generating the PDF and not opening them until the import (2 minutes later).

Some single files do some to process correctly but most of them don't.

Could it have anything to do with the files originating from FM7 or 8?

Don't really know if the updated files would have any effect. Are the PDFs generated as single PDFs from books or as discrete PDFs by chapter on demand or discrete files for every chapter for the book?
