Why is it so difficult to Import a MS Word 2010 File into Adobe FM 11? Any scripts  or usable advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Hey, what about saving the Word file as XML? Can't FM work with that?

Lord knows what Mr. Bill would make of that! I’d go the Word > RTF > Frame route

Hi Jeff,

I am manually working with as you state below. I reached out to Rick but I have not heard from him. Only have until Monday afternoon to get this down so I have to keep plugging away until it’s done.

Among other folks, check with Rick Quatro for an excellent set of scripts for cleaning up Word files. I'll be using them for client work later today.

The method that's worked best for me is to SaveAs .RTF in Word, then use

the FM .RTF import filter (If the Japanese RTF filter is enabled on your

system, use that -- seems to work better).

Then run a MIF-wash on all the imported files to eliminate stray Word

characters and code that will choke FM. Don't skip this step..

It’s because Word has all sorts of extra cruft in it that FM tries to deal with. Easier to copy & paste plain text and apply formatting in FM

I agree with Jeff. Except I find it easier to Save as text in Word, then import the file into Frame. If I import the document and tell it to ignore the formatting, it doesn't.

My preferred route, used far too frequently as I attempt to complete* the task of getting a large library consistent, is:

  1. add mml tags in Word (simple keyboard macro; wish I could find someone who could write me a real one)
  2. select all, delete/crush/stamp on any numbering and bullets
  3. save out as .txt
  4. adjust mml file in text editor
  5. open mml file in FM, import formats/layouts and carry on tidying

Just a pity mml doesn't do tables :-}

* but all thanks and kudos to my predecessor for getting FM and AI approved as documentation tools
