Indexing Function ceases to update

The updating of the index for a book in my copy of Framemaker 12 ceases to update.  It has also merged together two separate sets of markers.  Probably a corruption in the program file.  How do I recover?

    Hi,

When FrameMaker ceases to update, then FrameMaker cannot merge two separate sets of markers ;).

This is surely not a program corruption.

What happened? Which message do you get, so that the index cannot be generated?

I recommend to open all files of a book (so that all messages about missing graphics or fonts are already confirmed). Then update the book.

When two marker sets are merged in a single index, then this is normal, if this is set in the book.

To remove one of the markers, open the book file.

Then right-click on the index file in the book and click Set Up Standard Index.

Then remove one of the markers.

    Then update the book.

    Does this help?

    Best regards, Winfried

Can you give more details on your process and what is happening?

Also, please post a screenshot of your book file that shows the color of the icons.

If you've done something that changed the icon to the same color as your chapter files, it's no longer going to update.

Does it throw any error messages? Have you tried just creating a brand new index file?

re: …creating a brand new index file?

    Rename the old IX file.
Have FM generate a new one.
Import formats from the old one.

It sometimes happens that a generated file loses it's generated status (and this is reflected in the style of its icon in the .book file).
